The Carbon Base label was founded in 1992 by Michael Fibe and Peter Valentine. Based in St Albans, slightly north of London (UK), the label was dedicated to Fibe's and Valentine's own output, and the founders soon became active members in the London ambient scene. Looking back, Fibe and Valentine maintained a singular vision among their contemporaries.

In addition to the four more well-known albums on the label, there seems to exist an obscure trio of releases with black-and-white covers, two by Aloof Proof and one by PVH. It is unknown to us whether these ever received official pressing and distribution, but at least Verge was pressed on proper CD. We have not heard any of these albums and all info available to us is displayed below. It was originally published at the official Carbon Base site, which was temporarily available at www.danceman.co.uk and www.carbonbase.com (now updated).
